Why is personal development so important in business?

Why Personal Development?

Personal development changed my life! This is why it’s so important. If you’d have seen me 2 years ago, you wouldn’t recognise me. I was the most negative, self-conscious person ever and I felt like the whole world was against me, laughing at me and judging me. I walked around looking at the floor, I couldn’t talk to people online, let alone offline. Leaving the house was hugely difficult for me and you most certainly won’t see many pictures of me from before then either. I hated myself completely. That is no understatement either, I liked literally nothing about me.  Today? I’m a different person and I finally love me and that’s OK.

What personal development book do I start with?

I first read The Secret by Rhonda Byrne in October 2015. This is when I first learnt about the law of attraction. This is when the lightbulb went off big time in my head.  I realised then, that I’d manifested my life to be like it was,  and if I didn’t like it, then I to change the way I thought.  Thoughts are huge, if you have negative thoughts, you are bringing in those negative things back to you too.  Seriously though, watch the film, or read the book.

This was a massive game changer for me. I’ve read book after book, learning more and more and trying to action what I was learning. I finally realised there was more to life and that I deserved good things to happen to me.

I had to change me, before anything else in my life would change. I’ve read countless books, watched webinars, watched YouTube videos, Live videos, listened to audibles and podcasts.  I’ve taken personal development in from anywhere I could get it to change my life.

What helped the most?

When I started seeing a massive difference in me, was when I went one step further and started working with a Mindset and business coach.

My coach back then helped me understand what I was learning. She helped me really get to grips with my mindset. I now realise that mindset is everything. If your mindset is shot, you need to change that first. It really is the most important aspect of personal development for me.  If you don’t know where to start, then try Mindset first.

When I first met this woman, I couldn’t look at her or talk to her. She spoke to me and I couldn’t physically speak back I was that scared. I met her for the second time just 8 months later and I walked with my head held high. Walking up to her and actually talking to her and even a cheeky hug was a huge difference. I couldn’t do that 8 months earlier,  I was a different person.

I owe it all to this woman, to the personal development I’ve done and to pushing myself so far out of my comfort just to try to improve myself.

Confidence Booster

Personal development can change me from the girl who couldn’t speak to anybody and was scared to even be in her own house.  It helped me to be a confident woman who can hold her head held high, talk to people online and even hug people. If anyone really knew me before the personal development, you’d know I don’t hug people, being close to people would have been a huge no for me before.

If just one person picks up a personal development book after this, then I’ve done my job. When I say that if I can do it, then anyone can, I believe it with every fibre of my being.

Any more personal development recommendations?

The books that helped me the most are the whole of The Secret series (there are four), Hero, The Magic, The Power and of course The Secret.  Feel the fear and do it anyway and you are a badass.  I also recommend Go Pro by Eric Worre if you are in network marketing.

If you are after motivation, then look for motivational videos on YouTube as well, there are loads.  My favourites are those that feature Les Brown are my favourite, I love him so much.  His speeches fire me up like no other.

There are a few more than I’m working my way through at the minute that have been recommended to me.  They are supposed to be amazing, but I haven’t finished reading them yet.  These are The universe has my back, How to win friends and influence people, Radical Self Love, and You can heal your life.

My advice would be to take a look and choose a book that you feel drawn to, that resonate with you and start there.  You won’t regret it.  Listen on Audible if you need to, but please pick one up. I’d love to know which book you are reading right now
