Use your own voice they say, but how do I do that?

Use your own voice, what the fuck does that even mean? I’d hear it time and time again from various business owners of incomes ranging from 5 to 7 figures. ? I mean, it’s great and all but how the fuck does a person use their own voice if they don’t even know what that is?

So where do you even find your voice?

It’s hard right? To figure out your voice, your unique voice. There is nobody who can say what you need to say, share what you need to share exactly the same as you do and that’s great, because it means when you actually figure this shit out, you’re part way there to, because the way you say something, when you’re being yourself, using your own voice is what draws in the right people to you, your people, and that’s essentially what your after, to draw in people.

I remember writing posts and then deleting them, rewriting them and thinking that sounds fuck all like me, I don’t speak like that and I sound like a fucking robot. ?. I mean if anyone met me in real life and after I started feeling comfortable around them. and they’d have heard me swear, or speak the way I do they’d think I was a different person who they saw posts from online.

So start there! Start by writing how you’d speak, don’t worry about the swearing (if you do) or writing like you’d be expected to at school, because that won’t sound like you. You need to think about how you’d speak, you want to read the post back after and say yeah, that’s how it would sound if I was saying it in real life to a good friend. That’s how I’d speak in person, so the jobs a good ‘un.

But what if I offend someone or upset someone?

You’re going to upset someone eventually anyway! ?. Eventually someone will dislike you because it’s you, sometimes it’s for what feels like no good reason at all. Your not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, you never will be and that’s a good thing. You’re not for everyone, you can’t sell to everyone and you can’t be friends with everyone. You don’t want to be, you want to be you and the right people will like you and adore you because it’s you, because of the way you speak, because speaking as you is more relatable.

I understand why you wouldn’t want to hurt someone or upset someone, I feel the same way! I hate upsetting people, it kills me inside knowing I’ve upset someone when I have. But I can guarantee you now, that I probably have upset more people than I realise, even before finding my voice.

Have you even met someone and just taken an instant disliking to them? You can’t even pinpoint why can you? But it happens, and you know what it’s probably happened to you?

I know I’m not made for everyone? I know I’m not like everyone else and I’m ok with that now. I wasn’t for the longest time. I couldn’t understand why nobody liked me, why I was always the odd one out, the one that nobody noticed, the one with no friends or the one that was left out of plans, left trailing at the back of the group. Now, I’m realising that it’s ok, because to be seen, to stand out in the online business world, you have to be uniquely you! And that means standing out of the crowd. I mean, if you’ve always been the kind of person to not fit in, then you my friend are born to stand the fuck out. So what are you waiting for?

So how do you start to use your voice?

  • Think about how you speak in person, to the people your most comfortable around.
  • How do you sound when you speak in person, what kinds of words do you use?
  • Do you say specific phrases or words a lot, if so, use them?
  • Don’t overthink it

When I’ve written a post I know sounds perfectly like me, I know it because I read it back and it feels right.
