Start the month with the right mindset
A new month is a new opportunity, a chance to start it off right. When you’re in business the start of a month your focus can be left behind in the previous month. You think about the goals and targets you didn’t hit, what you could have done differently. This is OK at the end of the month, it’s good to reflect, but at the start of the month you need to draw a line. It’s important to draw the line for your business and your mindset. What happened last month isn’t your focus now, what you need to focus on is the goals you should already have set for this month. So let’s draw the line right now and start your month off the right way.
What should I do at the end of the month to start my month off properly?
Reflect on the last month first and see what worked and what didn’t, figure out what you need to keep doing, do more of and do less of. Once that’s done set your goals for the new month if you haven’t already and start to plan. This is important because if you know where you are going and what you are working towards it’s easier to focus on the new month ahead.
New month now what?
You’ve done your reflection and journaling, you know your goals and you’ve planned what you need to do to get there. You’ve done the prep work already so now you can focus. Having a daily to do list written really helps me to see what I need to do. The list should be easy to write each day because you should have your goals and know what you need to do to get there. Complete the list, feel amazing and get closer to your goals each day. OK, that probably isn’t going to happen, shit happens and things get in the way and some days you won’t do much on your list at all, but just know that it’s ok.
Take your time and do what you can, don’t beat yourself up for not completing your list at the end of the way and just keep moving towards your goals. You’ll get there, we all will. IT just takes time.
Creating new habits
I find mindset for me is always better at the start of the month, always ready to slay my tasks and having the best intentions to complete them all. I have to say I failed so much at my tasks when I first started a business. I’d set them and within a week they’d be abandoned and I’ll find myself at the end of the month completing nothing and wondering why.
July 2016 is the first month I ever followed through with completing everything each day that I set out to do, and I can’t say that I completed doing that every month since, because that would be a lie. It would also be a lie to say that it was easy, because it wasn’t, but as of March 2018 I’ve done it a fair few times and I’m setting out on a whole new part of my business journey now, but creating new habits is important. They say it takes 28 days to form a habit and it did work well for me and created some pretty good habits too. Read my blog post on 28 days to for a habit to find out more.
Your Task
My task for you is to write a daily to-do list and start completing them. I want you to tick them off as you go along and please let me know how you got on and how it made you feel at the end of the month. Please remember, your mind will try to find all sorts of reasons not to complete these tasks at some point, ignore it and do it anyway.
