What 3 Things do I wish I’d known before I started my business?

It’s easy in hindsight to look at the things you would have done or wish you’d known before starting your business. The thing is, you can’t change it, but you can start now, whatever stage you are in learning from other peoples mistakes. Especially to those of you reading this who don’t have businesses yet, but are thinking about it.

Tip 1 – Go on a Self Discovery Journey

I wish I’d have looked deeper into who I was before jumping into my first business back in October 2015. I was a mess in a dress back then, no confidence, fixed mindset, negative Nancy, you know the type? Or perhaps that’s you right now? No judgement or shame, because I’ve been there.

Self discovery was something I really didn’t do for years, I worked on my mindset, yes, but I didn’t know who I was. I jumped into a business I had no interest in because I knew I needed something and wanted a business, but didn’t know what kind.

So I’d definitely work on myself first, work on figuring out who I really was again. Self discovery is really important, because we can easily forget who we are when we get lost in life. I have a video/blog/podcast on self reflection which you will find useful.

Tip 2 – I’d look into my purpose

Life leaves clues in a lot of cases, with purpose. I ignored the nudges, the signs, the way that everything just seemed to point in try one direction. I didn’t see my talents as talents, or even know I was good at everything.

I believe that purpose does change and adapt as we go through life, certain things we have a purpose to do for a time, so nothing is ever wasted. It’s good to check though and see what your purpose is, and I didn’t know what that was for so long.

Do you know your purpose?

Tip 3 – I’d have my Business Foundations in place

I had worked through the foundations of business first, learned about all the things like ideal clients, values, branding, missions, visions, and all that good stuff. I think by working through these first, you can get a really strong foundation for your new business. I spent so long winging it, not aiming my posts to certain people, not knowing my audience, not knowing anything about it all.

I’ve spent the years since my first business changing things so much, now I have the things above in place, but it didn’t start that’s at. If I had done it first, I could have the foundations I needed.

Strong foundations help, you can build amazing things off strong foundations.

I have a 90 Masterclass on the foundations of building a business here if you wanted to join in.

So there it is, all laid on a plate for you. 3 things I wish I’d have known before I started my business.
